In this section, I’ve incorporated not only still life compositions , but also a series of paintings inspired by windows and interiors and in some cases leading to distant vistas. I spend a lot of time thinking and experimenting with composition before starting to paint. Taking into account, lighting, shadows, juxtaposition of objects, colour and themes. Here there is further opportunity to experiment and rise to the challenge of painting a range of everyday objects made from glass, metal, textile , pottery as well as fruit, vegetables and flowers.
Food presents a different challenge to paint. I very much enjoy putting together the compositions and experimenting with lighting , whether it be to paint fish, vegetables , pastries etc.it is fun to play with colour and in particular with fish, the reflective and wet surfaces can lend themselves to use of glazing techniques.
